Kayaking - Surf Skiing: St Leon sur Vezere - France Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Got up about 8 and had breakfast then decided to drive along the river
where we canoed yesterday and a bit further then take the road going
upwards from St. Cyprien through Campagne to Les Evies which is on the
river Vezere. There were some amazing caves and houses cut into the cliff
by prehistoric people. We stopped at Leon-sur-Vezere which was a lovely
town complete with chateau on the river. There was a municipal campsite
right on the river too with all the facilities, washing up, loos etc in the
town square! Sounds terrible but very tastefully done. We crossed the
river to the canoe hire place and decided to have our lunch then take a
canoe for a couple of hours. We set off at just gone 1 and canoed until
3.30 when the guy came to pick us up. We arrived at exactly the same time
as him. It was lovely, not so many fish (hardly any and definitely no big
ones) but saw another 4 kingfishers, a heron. There are loads of shells
outside holes in the bank so we think they must be otters as we think coypu
are veggie. We canoed past some fantastic overhanging cliffs with lots of
ferns hanging down from them. The river goes right underneath the
trogladite caves and the house cut into the cliff so it was very
interesting. Had a coffee and cake when we got back then set off to find
the main road out of the Dordogne:( We went to the supermarket at
Terrasson Lavilledley to get some diesel and some French food bits and
pieces to take home for dan. We reached Vierzon about 120 miles short of
paris at about 8.30 and stopped in the services there for the night and had
a real concoction of everything from the fridge for tea. Rob texted us to
tell us Ipswich won so he was pleased.
